August 9, 2018: Andrena nigriceps (Black-faced Mining-bee) at Heysham

This is quite a scarce species although it's also known locally on the Sefton coast. Many of its sites are coastal but it''s also found inland on heaths and brownfield sites. These are quite large for an Andrena, slightly smaller than a honeybee. Today, they had become somewhat faded but were foraging eagerly on the Mayweed, clambering from flower to flower, rather than flying.
